Family Support

Upstate Cerebral Palsy is committed to helping families receive the programs and supports needed to care for their loved one. All programs at the agency incorporate a family support component as part of individualized programming that is customized to each program and specifically to each family’s needs. Upstate Cerebral Palsy offers a variety of support programs for individuals with autism spectrum disorders and their families.


After School/Recreation Programs 


The Kelberman Center provides a variety of innovative social and recreational opportunities for children and teens diagnosed with autism and/or autism spectrum disorders. Recognizing that many social and community opportunities are limited for individuals with autism, the Kelberman Center is committed to the on-going development of recreational programs and the establishment of partnerships within the community to expand the availability of programs for persons with and without disabilities.


After School Social Recreation Program


This program is designed to provide social, recreation, and leisure activities in a structured setting for children from ages 5 to 21 years of age who are considered hard to serve in traditional after school programs. The After School Social Recreation Program offers families after school social programs, Monday through Friday from 3:00-6:00 PM following the Utica City School calendar. Located in Utica, NY at the Armory Campus of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, the program offers state-of-the-art indoor facilities as well as a secure playground and water park. Transportation to the program can be arranged for children who resident within the Utica School District. Families must provide transportation home.

School Break and Summer Recreation Program


This program provides the same elements as the After School Social Recreation Program and is offered during school breaks and during the summer months with extended hours. Support Programs

 

Autism Support Group

The Autism Support Group provides an opportunity for families and individuals to meet on a regular basis and explore and discuss issues related to autism. Facilitated by the Family Services Specialist, the group meets monthly and is open to all members of the community affected by autism spectrum disorder. Promise Coffee Club

The Promise Preschool Program for children with autism spectrum disorder provides a weekly “Coffee Club” for parents of children in the program. The program is facilitated by the Family Services Specialist of the Promise Program and includes speakers on related topics as well as opportunities for parents to share with one another.

Individual/Family Counseling

In conjunction with the Community Health & Behavioral Services Division of Upstate Cerebral Palsy, the Kelberman Center offers individual and family counseling. Counseling is offered in group or individual settings, depending on the needs of the individual and/or family.
